I would like to celebrate diversity in my next model call and paint the rainbow!

I am actively seeking pregnant women of color (BIPOC) who want to experience henna and be paid for being a model.

An overview of a session:

  • You arrive at my Art Studio (which is in central Boulder, 2 blocks off Broadway)

  • After signing a model agreement so I can publish at least 1 image of the art (you can remain anonymous) I will pay you for your time ($50-$100 total).

  • You change into some comfortable, silky, goddess wear from my studio wardrobe and recline in my tattoo chair

  • You receive henna adornment - tell me your ideas and I will incorporate them your custom created design

  • After the henna has dried, you are photographed in my studio

  • A few days later you will receive an email with 4 digital images that are full resolution, ready to print and share as you wish.

If you are a BIPOC and interested in modeling for me, simply send me an email or text and include:

  • That you are a BIPOC who wants to be paid to model

  • Your estimated due date

  • a photo of yourself

The photos:

I love creating art and photographing it -  if I don’t I’ll probably never see my art again. I have a wonderful studio and can take a variety of images with different backgrounds and an assortment of colorful silks to dress up in.

My goal is to create a gallery of BIPOC art, possibly a future book about celebrating people of color. If you wish to remain anonymous, that’s fine, I will simply publish an image like this:

How dark the henna will stain the skin varies. This model (above) had a lovely henna stain - see more of her images below.

Henna grows throughout Africa and the Middle East and many different cultures have used it for thousands of years. Traditionally, henna is applied to the palms because

  • Henna is soothing to your nerves and we have the most nerve endings on our palms.

  • The skin is thicker on the palms and the natural henna dye can sink in deeper and stain darker.

  • One of henna’s medicinal qualities is that it is cooling to the skin and this is felt most profoundly on your palms (and feet).

I think henna looks beautiful on all skin colors and I’m looking forward to having more models with darker skin to experience henna.

I am really hoping to represent more of the BIPOC community in my art. Henna originates from the Middle East, Africa and India and I would love the show more women with this ancestry in my work.

I am also open to the idea of using “white henna” which is technically not henna at all, but white body paint. It does not stain the skin white, instead it lasts for a day or two and is then washed off.

What kind of henna design do you want? Some women come with a clear idea of elements they want incorporated. Others aren’t sure, they just want something pretty. Either way is fine with me, I can work with any prompts.

See my page on Pregnancy for design ideas - simply take screenshots of everything you like so you can show me later.

One of the oldest symbols of protection is the Hamsa, which looks like an open hand - the hand of the goddess. It dates back over 2,000 years and originated from Africa and the Middle East. When the Hamsa is facing downwards, as it is on this beautiful pregnant belly (below), it symbolizes good things coming into your life and is a blessing for fertility.

OPTIONAL: If you have close female friends or family that would like to celebrate your pregnancy with you and be adorned too - let me know! Each person would need to sign a model release form. We can create a beautiful ceremony and photograph you all together. If you choose this option you will receive 4 additional images. There is no additional payment for this type of session, it would still be $50-$100 total.

OPTIONAL: If you have time to return when the henna is peaking in color and want to include other children and/or your significant other, we can schedule a time for that - it would be 2 or 3 days after the henna has been applied. There is no additional payment for this kind of modeling. You would receive an additional 4 images from that session, for a total of 8 images of you pregnant.

Since 2008 I have adorned hundreds of models for various art projects.

I have printed 6 volumes of art on pregnancy - Blessed Belly, Blessed Baby: Honoring Motherhood with Henna Tattoos.

I have created 13 issues of a magazine - Artfull Mother: Devoted to the Interests of Mothers and the Art that Empowers Them.

I am very excited to be working on my next book on Pregnancy!
