Last November, I had the honor of adorning Nina, a radiant new mama, with a henna design that told a powerful story. Inspired by Nordic mythology and the symbolism of the ancient Vikings (her ancestors), Nina's vision was a beautiful tapestry of nature and meaning. Her arm was already etched with a permanent tattoo of a tree, its roots a testament to the grounding force it had been in her life since youth. It was clear that this symbol held profound significance, and she wanted to weave its magic into her pregnancy design. I brought her vision to life, incorporating the Viking Symbol of Mother and Son into the trunk, and sneaking in a whisper of the moon – a celestial nod to the new life she carried.

As Nina's henna session came to a close, we stepped into my backyard, where autumn's palette was on full display. Crimson leaves swirled around her feet as she settled beneath the maple's canopy – a fitting tribute to the tree that had been her symbol of strength. I had a vision to ground her in this moment, surrounded by nature's fiery splendor, and the tree she'd been adorned with seemed to be the perfect partner. The resulting photos are a love letter to life, color, and the radiant glow of new beginnings.
